The Titan Games

This weekend Downtown Atlanta hosts the Titan Games, the road to Athens for America’s elite boxers, fencers, shot-putters, wrestlers, weightlifters and judo and taekwondo athletes. The Titan Games, isn’t all the Olympic sports, just the most painful ones. The event, sponsored by Home Depot, will come to Philips Arena June 18-20. 180 athletes, representing 12 counties, will compete in seven sports. This unique mini-sports festival will feature simultaneous action in four “battle zones” on the floor of Philips Arena. Competition will will be "U.S. versus the world" format. Total prize money is $100,000.

The Titan Games arrive at Centennial Olympic Park today for an exciting day of competition, interactive games and entertainment beginning at 11 a.m., and winding down at 10:45 p.m.
The Titan Games bring a bevy of free Olympic activity to satisfy those unable to make it to Athens for the Summer Games. Several musical acts are scheduled to perform throughout the day including Rio Negro, Francine Reed and American Idol sensation Diana DeGarmo.
6 p.m. through 8 p.m. - Olympic legends will be on hand for an autograph session.
9 p.m. - The Olympic Torch will once again pass through Atlanta along with distinguished guests including Billy Payne, chief executive of the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games, and bobsledder, Vonetta Flowers, the first African American to win a gold medal at the Winter Olympics. The torch arrives on Andrew Young International Boulevard via Marietta Street. The Torch lighting will be followed by remarks from city and state officials.
10 p.m. ˆ 10:45 p.m. - The day comes to a close with a musical performance by rock band Cowboy Mouth on the Great Lawn.
