Eight World Cup matches scheduled for Atlanta in 2026 are projected to generate $503.2 million in economic impact from out-of-state visitors, according to a study by Jerry D. Parrish for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce. The chief economist described projections as conservative given numerous uncertain factors, and the report excluded government and local spending.
Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium will host five group stage matches, one Round of 32 match, one Round of 16 match, and a semifinal, all scheduled for June. The stadium has a capacity of 73,019 with estimated average attendance of 65,000 per match, totaling 520,000 spectators across eight games. The study estimates 300,000 unique visitors, with approximately 225,000 from out-of-state.
Average out-of-state visitor spending is projected at $1,070 per person beyond typical expenditures, comprising $670 for lodging, $260 for food and beverages, $90 for merchandise, and $50 for entertainment. Corporate spending is estimated at $20 million. Transportation costs are not included in these figures.
The economic impact projection ranges between $461.2 million and $543.4 million, with $503.2 million representing the most probable outcome following 10,000 simulations.
