South Downtown, the adaptive reuse development from Newport RE, is about to celebrate the opening of its first food and beverage concept. TydeTate Kitchen is set to open at 11 a.m. April 15 in a 1,301-square-foot space at 229 Mitchell St., one of 10 retail storefronts in the renovated Historic Hotel Row.
The counter-service restaurant will feature a menu of Thai comfort food like chicken curry puffs and pork dumplings, along with a full bar with Thai-inspired cocktails.
TydeTate, which opened its first location inside the Chattahoochee Food Works food hall in 2021, comes from brother-sister duo Sai Untachantr and Bank Bhamaraniyama and was named for Untachantr's two sons. The South Downtown offerings will expand upon the menu at Chattahoochee Food Works.
The South Downtown development also includes the Sylvan building along Historic Hotel Row, 13,100 square feet of retail space that will be home to shops, bars and restaurants including Spiller Park Coffee, Liz & Leon's and Sweet Gigi's from chef Bella Jones, and pizza spot Pizza Clementine and basement cocktail bar Thirteenth Floor from Slater Hospitality.
Also announced as a tenant for the South Downtown project is bowling alley and bar concept Pins Mechanical Company.
