The Atlanta Beltline will hold its first Housing Fair on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Monday Night Garage, 933 Lee St. SW, next to the Southwest Trail. The event is free, and registration is open online.
For downtown residents, the draw is that a dozen separate housing agencies will be in the same room on the same afternoon. Representatives from Atlanta Beltline, the Atlanta Beltline Partnership, Invest Atlanta, Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, Atlanta Housing, the Atlanta Land Trust, the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, the Westside Future Fund, affordable housing developers and other housing organizations are all scheduled to be on site.
Organizers are pitching it as a one-stop counter for anyone at any stage: buying a first home, applying for financial assistance, or figuring out how to rent along the Beltline corridor. Lenders and nonprofit staff will be available to walk through eligibility and application requirements in person rather than by phone or web form.
One of the newer programs on offer is the Atlanta Beltline Mortgage Assistance Program, launched in partnership with Invest Atlanta. It is the Beltline's first down payment assistance program, and it is aimed at legacy residents and public sector employees buying homes inside the Beltline Tax Allocation District on the west and south sides of the city.
The fair also lands against a running count. The Beltline says it has delivered 4,555 affordable housing units within the Tax Allocation District so far, or 81 percent of its stated goal of creating or preserving 5,600 units by 2030. Roughly 1,000 units remain to hit that mark by the deadline.
