Atlanta Tech Village, created by entrepreneur David Cummings after selling his company for nearly $100 million, exemplifies Atlanta's potential as a 21st-century economic hub — growing from 20 desks to hundreds of entrepreneurs in months, demonstrating the city's pent-up demand for collaborative startup space.

When passing the building at Lenox and Piedmont roads in Buckhead, renovations on the exterior near completion catch the eye — one of many construction projects throughout the city. However, the interior activity at 3423 Piedmont Road holds greater significance, potentially representing the emergence of metro Atlanta's 21st-century economy.

The Atlanta Tech Village, created by entrepreneur David Cummings, exemplifies possibilities for a region seeking to maintain its economic importance. In December 2012, Cummings purchased the building, which was approximately two-thirds occupied by typical office tenants. He had the financial means because he and a business partner had previously founded and sold a company for nearly $100 million.

In January 2013, Cummings tweeted about having 20 desks available for rent to entrepreneurs launching new ventures. "I realized that there was a pent-up demand," he noted. The desks sold out the next day.
