Who they are
Gateway Center has been a fixture of downtown Atlanta since it opened its doors at 275 Pryor Street SW on July 27, 2005. The independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit grew out of Atlanta’s Blueprint to End Homelessness and today serves as the front door to the continuum of care for the City of Atlanta and Fulton County, working with roughly 5,000 people a year. Its mission: to connect people experiencing housing insecurity with the support necessary to thrive in a permanent home.
What they do
Everything at Gateway is organized around five Keys to Success: housing placement and stability, health and wellness, job skills training and placement, family and community engagement, and adult and financial literacy. Programs include Coordinated Entry, which matches men, women and families with the right housing resources; the Engagement Center; New Beginnings; the Upward recovery program; the Evolution Center; and a Veterans Program run with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The guiding idea is on the team’s shirts: Everybody Vs. Homelessness.
How to get involved
Gateway welcomes volunteers, donors and corporate partners, and you can sign up or give through gatewayctr.org. Its signature fundraiser is Human Clay, now in its 14th year, an evening gala that brings Atlanta’s civic and business community together to support the Center’s work. Anyone looking for services can call the Engagement Center at (404) 215-6600; regular program admission starts weekdays at 7:00 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.
