Brianna Jackson launches Heart of South Downtown to drive job growth and entrepreneurship. Delilah's Everyday Soul gets construction permits at 227 Mitchell. Broad Street reconstruction begins. And 80 subcontractors tour the 4-million-square-foot SoDo portfolio.

Heart of South Downtown Launch

A new initiative led by Brianna Jackson launches with a focus on job growth amongst neighbors and surrounding neighborhoods, connecting social services with individuals on the streets, and fostering economic opportunity through entrepreneurship. Jackson brings nearly 10 years at Atlanta Ventures followed by 3 years in People Operations at Calendly. Board members include Tope Awotona, Kyle Porter, Garrett Langley, and Ed Rieker.

Safety & Security

Major Singh leads a continuous 24/7 APD presence in the neighborhood. SoDo has been working with APD for 14 months and is tracking 90-day crime data trends.

Business Development

Crates — Owner Darryl Harris received keys to his space; grand opening expected in March. The vinyl and home goods shop adds a creative retail element to the neighborhood.

Delilah's Everyday Soul — Owner Delana received permits for buildout at 227 Mitchell Street. Construction is beginning imminently on this soul food restaurant.

One major lease signed with two more letters of intent pending. SoDo is seeking retail, food and beverage, and live entertainment concepts.

Community

A South Downtown chess tournament is proceeding to the final four competitors. Community tours continue via Eventbrite. The Terminus Hub (formerly ATV - Masons) is accepting office tours.

Black History Month

Jeff Hullinger produced a GPB piece on Atlanta's 65th anniversary of the civil rights sit-ins. Alonzo Herndon's entrepreneurial legacy was honored this month.

Development

Broad Street reconstruction commenced, coordinated among the City of Atlanta, MARTA, and ATL DOT, targeting completion before the World Cup.

Subcontractor Open House — Approximately 80 subcontractors toured Atlanta Tech Village - Sylvan. The SoDo portfolio spans 4 million square feet of space.

MARTA A-Line (formerly BRT) construction is active along Mitchell Street, connecting to Summerhill and Peoplestown.

85 Peachtree construction is ongoing. SoDo has been operating in the neighborhood for 4 months with 10 months of planning prior.
