The Tabernacle Gets a New Name for Its 30th Year as a Concert Venue

Downtown's Tabernacle is now officially "the Tabernacle presented by iThink Financial" — a Florida credit union's first Georgia naming-rights deal, timed to the venue's 30th anniversary as a concert hall.

One of downtown Atlanta's most storied concert venues is adding a few words to its marquee. As of this week, the Tabernacle is officially "the Tabernacle presented by iThink Financial," under a new naming-rights partnership announced by Live Nation, which has operated the 2,600-capacity space since 1999.

"I just want people to come in and experience the Tabernacle for the special place that it is, and the name is just an add-on to that," said Trevor Ralph, Live Nation's regional vice president of operations for southeast venues. He called the pairing with iThink — a Delray Beach, Florida-based credit union with more than 118,000 members and $2.3 billion in assets — a "natural combination." iThink entered its first live-music naming deal back in 2020 at Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, now known as iThink Financial Amphitheatre; the Tabernacle marks the company's first such partnership in Georgia.

"It brings two organizations that are focused on creating positive and memorable experiences together," said Michael Miller, iThink's president and CEO, who declined to share deal terms but said the move was about growing the credit union's brand and Georgia footprint. He pointed to the building's history as the draw: "To me, it's a very recognizable, culturally relevant place that people associate with having great experiences."

That history runs deep. Located on Luckie Street in the historic core of downtown, the Tabernacle originally opened as a Baptist church in 1911. It was revived as a concert venue for the 1996 Olympics under House of Blues ownership, and took on the Tabernacle name in 1998 after House of Blues left town. Live Nation has run the room since 1999 — this is only its second naming-rights deal, following a Cricket Wireless sponsorship that ran from 2017 to 2020.

The timing lines up with a milestone: the iThink partnership arrives as the Tabernacle marks its 30th year as a concert venue. "For me, that means that for 115 years, we've had communities gathering and expressing joy and sorrow and music and heartbreak in this building," Ralph said. "The architecture, the wood, the stained glass, all of that is resonant. And I think that those energies just kind of build on themselves and have created a place that artists love to play." Over the decades the room has hosted acts from Dave Matthews Band and Dave Chappelle to Kendrick Lamar — and, in 2025, former Vice President Kamala Harris for a book tour stop.

The Tabernacle isn't the only Live Nation-run Atlanta-area venue to change its name recently: Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park became Synovus Bank Amphitheater last year, following earlier renamings at what are now Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood and Ameris Bank Amphitheatre. Ralph and Miller said additional programming tied to the new partnership is still being worked out. Upcoming shows at the venue include Houndmouth on Sept. 24 and Issa Rae's 10th-anniversary "Insecure" tour stop on Oct. 2.
