What it is
Afrodish has served Afro-Caribbean cooking inside the historic Sweet Auburn Curb Market since October 1997. Husband-and-wife owners Raphael and Vincencia Sarpong came to the United States from Ghana in the early 1980s, and the menu grew out of Vincencia’s idea of pairing the seasonings of her homeland with dishes familiar across the Caribbean and other parts of Africa. The couple picked the Curb Market for its central downtown address and its deep ties to Atlanta’s history.
What to order
Plates are built to be filling, and the owners say you may well leave with leftovers. Vegetarians are covered: there are meat-free plates, and none of the side dishes are cooked with meat. If you only want a quick bite or a cold drink, a selection of snacks is on hand as well. Afrodish also caters, and the full menu is posted on the restaurant’s website.
Before you go
This is a daytime spot. The restaurant lists service from late morning into the afternoon Monday through Saturday, and it is closed on Sundays. You’ll find it inside the market at 209 Edgewood Avenue SE; the restaurant’s site notes one hour of parking validation. Questions can go to (404) 522-1054.
