What it is
Aviva by Kameel is a family-run Mediterranean kitchen that opened in October 2012 and is named for founder Kameel Srouji’s sister — the name translates to “spring” and “freshness.” Kameel, the youngest of eleven siblings, learned to cook in his mother’s kitchen before immigrating to America in 1982, and his son Nas joined the business in 2013. The downtown counter is one of three Atlanta locations, alongside Buckhead and Midtown.
What to order
Everything is cooked in 100% extra virgin olive oil, and the kitchen skips processed ingredients and added sugar. Meats are halal and raised without hormones or antibiotics, and the produce is local. The menu is built to work for vegan, gluten-free and keto diners, and the team says it keeps a zero cross-contamination kitchen, which makes it an easy pick when a lunch group has mixed dietary needs. Atlanta Magazine has named it Best Takeout. Catering is available for office meetings and larger gatherings.
Before you go
The downtown location keeps weekday lunch hours only, so plan around a Monday–Friday midday visit; on Saturdays, the Buckhead and Midtown kitchens are open instead. Online ordering is available through the Aviva by Kameel website.
