Underground Atlanta Became the City's Ground Zero for Morocco World Cup Celebrations

Underground Atlanta turned Upper Alabama into a Moroccan celebration hub with red-carpet decor and an influencer zone.

Moroccan-themed red carpet entrance and stage built for World Cup fan celebrations at Underground Atlanta

Underground Atlanta became the unofficial home for Morocco's World Cup fan base in June 2026, transforming Upper Alabama Street into a two-day Moroccan celebration ahead of the Atlas Lions' match against Haiti.

The activation built on the broader Upper Alabama Street transformation the district had already unveiled for the World Cup. Where that earlier buildout gave the plaza its stadium seating, enhanced lighting and performance stage for every match of the tournament, this event dressed the corridor "red carpet Casablanca style" for Morocco's turn in the spotlight: a towering red-and-gold arched entryway reading "Welcome to Atlanta, Morocco," flanked by green-and-gold balloon columns, with a red carpet leading guests in off Alabama Street.

Futsal pitches built into the district's pre-World Cup renovations opened to the public alongside the celebration, joined by live music, cultural performances and a game-night watch party open without the advance registration FIFA's official Fan Festival required just a short walk away. Food trucks Gas Bros and Char Kingz Atlanta served halal fare, while Scent Souk, a perfume and oud bar, and a themed pop-up called Underground x Morocco rounded out the vendor lineup.

Both days of the celebration featured an "influencer zone," where prominent Moroccan social media personalities set up shop and broadcast the scene to followers around the world, part of an effort organizers said was aimed at making Underground Atlanta the epicenter of Morocco's World Cup presence in the city.

"Underground Atlanta is one of the most iconic entertainment destinations in the city, and we are excited for soccer fans from around the world to experience it," said Shaneel Lalani, CEO of Lalani Ventures, which owns Underground Atlanta, in a news release.

The celebration landed just weeks after Morocco's ambassador met with Mayor Andre Dickens and told Global Atlanta the match would serve as a "tool" for building cultural, tourism and business ties between Atlanta and Morocco — a framing Underground Atlanta's Moroccan-themed programming leaned into directly, giving fans a dedicated gathering space before and after kickoff.
