Underground Atlanta is the city's historic cultural hub: a warren of storefronts, bars and music rooms at downtown's original street level, below the viaducts that were built over it in the 1920s. Reimagined by Lalani Ventures, it runs today on art, nightlife, local retail, food and events.
What is down there
- The Masquerade — four indoor rooms named Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and Altar, from 300 to 1,500 capacity, and one of the most diversely programmed live music venues in the country.
- MJQ Concourse — the long-running home of Atlanta's underground nightlife scene, with Locals Only Night every Wednesday.
- Dolo's Pizza — New York-style slices with Caribbean flavors, on Lower Alabama across from MJQ.
- Daiquiriville — frozen daiquiris and Colombian tapas in Kenny's Alley, with karaoke Thursdays and DJs Thursday through Sunday.
- Utopia Restaurant & Lounge — street-level dining from brunch to late night, with patio seating over downtown.
- Lunchbox — a multi-room electronic music club, and Underground Diner, an all-day spot at 68 Pryor St SW, open seven days.
