Saturday mornings in downtown Atlanta have a standing appointment on the grass. Through September 27, 2025, Woodruff Park hosts a free hour of yoga every Saturday, giving anyone with a mat a reason to start the weekend in the middle of the city.
The 2025 run began April 12 and wraps up at the end of September. Sessions are held on the lawn at the center of the park from 10 to 11 a.m., which is a shift from earlier years: the class now starts an hour later than it used to, so returning regulars should adjust their alarms.
There is no fee, but there is a sign-up. Participants are asked to RSVP online ahead of time, and registration has been open for every date on the calendar. If plans change after you reserve a spot, cancelling the RSVP frees up room for someone else.
The format is vinyasa flow, a style built around sun salutations that link breathing to movement. Expect downward-facing dog, chaturanga transitions and a steady pace that the event's organizers describe as suited to beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Classes are open to all ages and experience levels, and the event is billed as kid-friendly.
What to bring is short: your own mat and a water bottle. Bad weather can call off a session, and anyone who registered will hear about a cancellation through the contact details they gave when they signed up.
The Saturday series also has a weeknight counterpart. In August and September, the park offers a free Gentle Yoga session on Wednesday evenings starting at 6 p.m., a slower option for people who would rather stretch after work than before brunch. Check the park's event listings for confirmed dates.
The setting is part of the draw. Woodruff Park covers six acres at 91 Peachtree Street NW in the Fairlie-Poplar district, bordered by Peachtree Street, Edgewood Avenue, Auburn Avenue and Park Place. Government offices, commercial buildings and Georgia State University surround it, and the park itself offers fountains and playgrounds. It began life as Central City Park and was renovated with a donation from Robert W. Woodruff, the former Coca-Cola Company president whose name it now bears. Across the year it also hosts festivals and performances such as the WoodRUFF Bark Dog Parade and an annual German Bierfest.
Getting to class without a car is simple. The park sits between the Five Points and Peachtree Center MARTA rail stations. From Five Points, follow signs to the Peachtree Street exit, turn left and walk about a block. From Peachtree Center, a red or gold line stop, head for the Ellis Street end of the platform, follow signs to Peachtree Street East, then turn left on Peachtree at street level. Two Atlanta Streetcar stops, Park Place and Woodruff Park, are inside the park, and a Relay Bike Share hub is on site as well.
For downtown residents, students and anyone staying nearby, the series is one of the easiest ways to spend a free Saturday morning outdoors in the heart of the city.
