What it is
Woodruff Park spreads across six acres in the geographic center of Atlanta, framed by the glass office towers and older masonry buildings of the Fairlie-Poplar district. It sits where downtown’s business, government and education worlds overlap, so on any given day the benches and lawns fill with office workers, Georgia State students, residents and visitors. That central spot also makes it a natural place to start a walk around downtown and the neighborhoods that ring it.
A bit of history
The park opened in the 1970s under the name Central City Park. A donation from Robert W. Woodruff, the former president of The Coca-Cola Company, made it possible, and the park was later renamed in his honor.
Around the park
Plenty of downtownATL listings are within a short stroll. If you’re hungry, Blossom Tree and BT Burger are just across Peachtree Street, and Stir House Atlanta is around the corner on Broad Street. For an evening out, the Rialto Center for the Arts on Forsyth Street and Theatrical Outfit on Luckie Street are both a few blocks northwest. Grab a coffee or a burger, find a shady seat, and watch the city go by before heading on to a show.
