The Kessler

The former Davison-Paxon (Macy's) department store, later Kessler's — a turn-of-the-century building converted to about 50 loft condos over ground-floor retail, one block south of Five Points MARTA in South Downtown.

The Kessler

What it is

The Kessler, also called Kessler City Lofts, is a condominium building at 87 Peachtree St SW in the heart of downtown. The association describes a historic seven-story building within walking distance of several MARTA stations, and construction on the tower began in 1912 over the top of an existing department store that stayed open during the work. It was finished in 1913.

Residences

Inside, the lofts have exposed brick walls, concrete columns, original artwork, large windows, original maple floors and 13-foot ceilings. A rooftop deck offers sunset views of downtown and can be rented for private events on request. The building also lists a grill club, available on request for $200 a year, and a garden club included in dues.

History

The building's history page traces the department store era, including Robinson's Department Store in 1952, and a later furniture company. The condo association is managed by Silverleaf Management, and it asks that rental inquiries not be sent to the association. See the Kessler City Lofts website.
