What it is
Theatrical Outfit is a professional theatre company that calls itself the only one in downtown Atlanta. It owns the Balzer Theater at Herren's, at 84 Luckie St NW in the Fairlie-Poplar district, in a historic building that used to house Herren's restaurant, the first Atlanta restaurant to voluntarily desegregate, in 1963.
Programs
The company says it produces five plays and a new-work festival each season, with an emphasis on Atlanta artists. The 2026-2027 season on the site lists August Wilson's Fences and All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, and there is a new-work program called Launchpad. The theatre also hosts The Moth, jazz concerts and other pop-up events, and Live at the Balzer fills off-nights with guest artists. The company is marking its 50th anniversary with special events.
