Walton Spring Park

What it is

Walton Spring Park is a small downtown park on the corner of Spring Street NW and Carnegie Way NW, near the Andrew Young International Boulevard corner. It takes its name from Walton Spring, an early Atlanta resort. Spring Street was named for the spring, and Walton Street for Anderson W. Walton, a member of the city’s first council who owned the property.

The statue

The park holds an 8.5-foot bronze statue of Andrew Young by North Carolina sculptor Johnpaul Harris, along with a 25-foot obelisk and bronze disk by Curtis Patterson, set in a granite circular bench and wall. The $1.5 million project was conceived by Charles Loudermilk, founder of Aaron Rents.

Around it

Downtown Atlanta Inc. lists Social62, The Drafting Table, Ted’s Montana Grill and Café Momentum nearby, with Tabernacle and the Rialto Center for the Arts a short walk away.
