A new mural at Windsor Street SW and Rawson Street SW, just off Interstate 20, was dedicated on April 21, 2026. Wild Seed, Wild Flower is the work of Atlanta artist Charity Hamidullah. The City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs organized the dedication and press event and placed the mural in South Downtown, ahead of the World Cup.
A year in the making
The piece was created in partnership with Living Walls. According to the city, the project took more than a year of planning, followed by three weeks of on-site production, and Hamidullah worked with a team of collaborating artists to carry the design onto the wall.
What the mural shows
The city describes the center of the design as an image of one child tying another's shoe while tying their own, a picture of growth, care and resilience as collective acts. WSB-TV reported that the design also includes hands, butterflies, flowers and a soccer ball, tying the artwork to both community life and the World Cup. Hamidullah told the station the piece reflects themes of growth, connection and unity, and that it is a tribute to neighborhoods including Mechanicsville, Five Points, South Downtown, Castleberry Hill and Pittsburgh.
The largest mural in the city
WSB-TV reported that the mural spans roughly 10,000 square feet, which makes it the largest in Atlanta. It is part of the city's Bridges, Tunnels, and Walls program, which turns public infrastructure into canvases for public art. At the ribbon-cutting, Mayor Andre Dickens said people coming into downtown, whether headed to City Hall, Mercedes-Benz Stadium or State Farm Arena, will pass by it, and he described the mural as part of continued investment in Mechanicsville.
If you go, the mural is at the intersection of Windsor Street SW and Rawson Street SW.
