Memorial Drive Greenway

An 8.5-acre linear park currently in design that will transform a half-mile stretch of underutilized land into a people-centered greenspace connecting historic Oakland Cemetery to the edge of downtown, featuring native plantings and an elevated walkway.

Memorial Drive Greenway

What it is

The Memorial Drive Greenway is a planned linear park along a half-mile stretch of the Memorial Drive corridor, between Memorial Drive SE and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SE. The City of Atlanta Department of Parks and Recreation says the project will turn about 8.5 acres of underused land into greenspace, with Oakland Cemetery at the east end and the Downtown Connector on the west.

Where it stands

The city launched the design phase in August 2025, with Pond & Company leading the work and the 2016 Memorial Drive Vision Plan as its guide. Phase One covers schematic design for the whole length of the park, plus full design, permitting and construction for one of the seven city blocks. The plans call for stormwater management and native plantings. An earlier idea for a cap park over the Connector is not part of the current scope.

Before you go

Because this is a project in design, there is not yet a park to visit. The city’s announcement has the background.
