What it is
Metro Deli Soul Food has operated as a restaurant inside the Municipal Market in Sweet Auburn since 2004. Owners Mimi and Freselam came from Ethiopia in the 1990s and worked to learn the language, the culture and the food industry. It is both a deli and a soul food restaurant.
Food and drink
The deli makes sandwiches to order and serves breakfast daily; the page suggests asking Mimi about her chicken salad sandwiches. The soul food side has meat and vegetable options every day, and the vegetables are never made with meat. Cobbler and banana pudding round out a plate. The owners also bring Ethiopian flavors, such as a lentil sambusa and a spicy beets salad, and there are vegan options including lentil soup and falafel as a wrap or salad.

The market's site describes it today as 28 independently owned businesses, from eateries and sweets to fresh meat, seafood and produce. Market hours are listed as 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., though each vendor keeps its own schedule.
