Chase Petra headline Purgatory at The Masquerade on Thursday, November 19.
The Los Angeles band write guitar music that keeps sliding between registers — indie rock structures, emo's emotional directness, and enough odd meter and abrupt dynamic shifts to keep the songs from settling into any one of those. Vocalist Christian Cabrera-Manzo's delivery is the throughline, moving from conversational to full-throated inside a single verse.
The bill underneath is genuinely stacked for a room this size: JER — of ska revivalists Skatune Network — plus Leisure Hour and Idkconundrum, making this four bands across four fairly different lanes.
With that many acts the night starts early. Doors are at 6 p.m. at 75 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.
