Be Your Own Pet

Be Your Own Pet was a Nashville indie punk band active from 2001 to 2008 whose two studio albums — Be Your Own Pet (2006) and Get Awkward (2008) — established them as one of the more genuinely dangerous-feeling acts of the mid-2000s indie rock moment. Vocalist Jemima Pearl's delivery was abrasive and confrontational in a way that stood apart from the more polished end of the scene; the band's breakneck tempos and refusal to be palatable made them critics' favorites and genuine live events.

A reunion show at The Masquerade on July 17 is exactly the kind of occasion the venue was built for: a small room, a cult act, and an audience that has been waiting years for another chance to hear these records performed the way they were meant to be.
