IGORRR + Secret Chiefs 3 & Violent Magic Orchestra

IGORRR is a French musical project founded by Gautier Serre whose recordings — including Savage Sinusoid (2017) and Spirituality and Distortion (2020) — combine extreme metal, baroque classical, breakcore, and operatic vocals into some of the most genuinely strange and accomplished music being made under a heavy music umbrella. The project demands a certain kind of listener: one willing to follow the music wherever it leads, at the tempo it chooses, without asking for genre consistency.

Secret Chiefs 3 is Trey Spruance's long-running project, equally difficult to categorize — drawing on surf, spy film soundtracks, Middle Eastern music, and experimental composition. Violent Magic Orchestra rounds out a bill at The Masquerade on October 12 that constitutes a full evening of music operating at heavy music's most intellectually ambitious edge. October 12.
