Qendesra headlines Purgatory at The Masquerade on Thursday, November 5.
The singer works a strain of alt-pop that keeps one foot in R&B phrasing and the other in something colder and more electronic — heavily layered vocal stacks, production that leaves the low end deliberately hollow, and a delivery that stays controlled even as the arrangements get busier around it.
It is early-catalog material played in a room sized to match, which is the version of a show worth catching: Purgatory holds a few hundred people, the stage is barely raised, and there is nowhere for a performer to hide.
Doors open at 7 p.m. at The Masquerade, 75 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW in Underground Atlanta.
