Johnnyswim is a husband-and-wife duo — Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano — whose recordings combine soul, folk, and Americana into a sound built around two voices that were made to sing together. Their live show is known for the kind of warmth and between-song storytelling that makes a concert feel more like an evening with people you know than a performance by artists you admire — a quality that is rarer than it sounds and that has built them one of the most devoted fanbases in contemporary Americana.
The Tabernacle on October 11 is a well-matched room for a duo whose music is as much about presence as performance. The sightlines are excellent and the sound system serves vocal-forward music as well as it serves anything. October 11.
