The Decatur burger shop moves into a Georgia Avenue storefront that has sat empty since May, while Colmado keeps pouring $10 tastings every Thursday in Old Fourth Ward.

Smileys Burger Club takes over the old How Crispy space in Summerhill, opening Sept. 1

A vacant storefront on Georgia Avenue is getting a tenant again. Smileys Burger Club opens Sept. 1 in the Summerhill space that How Crispy occupied for four years, filling one of the more visible holes in the strip of restaurants alongside the old Turner Field site. The opening was first reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Smileys has been operating for about two years in Decatur, across the street from Kimball House. The Summerhill location will open without a bar program; the operators plan to apply for a liquor license next year, meaning the first several months on Georgia Avenue will be food-first.

How Crispy closed in May after four years at the address. Partner Greg Best, also of Ticonderoga Club, said at the time that lease talks with the landlord fell apart when the two sides could not agree on extended terms. Turning the space around in roughly four months is a faster recovery than most Summerhill vacancies have managed.

In Old Fourth Ward, Colmado — the hair salon and wine shop hybrid — runs a weekly tasting worth knowing about if you are downtown on a Thursday evening. Taste Makers pours small-batch, low-intervention wines made by women winemakers from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for $10. An RSVP is requested.

The rest of the week's restaurant news lands mostly outside downtown. Sushi stall NoriFish and ramen stall Okiboru open in the Ponce City Market food hall on Aug. 28, replacing Ton Ton Ramen Bar and Miso Ko. Spina Pizza opened at Atlanta Dairies after repeated delays, serving Tuesday through Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. BOSK Coffee Wine and Tapas, owned by siblings Nako and Narie Roberson, opens in Southwest Atlanta on Aug. 28 with a 2:30 p.m. ribbon cutting featuring Mayor Andre Dickens. Chef Demetrius Brown's Heritage is taking reservations for a late-September debut, and a second Ruby Chow's is planned near the Westside Beltline on Trabert Avenue next summer.
