Downtown Atlanta's tourist and stadium district had another hotel in its pipeline as of early 2024: city permitting filings pointed to a second Moxy by Marriott planned near Centennial Olympic Park.
Filings with Atlanta's Office of Buildings showed developers Nexera Capital and Emerge Hospitality Group aiming to demolish a low-rise building at 329 Marietta St. to make way for a 13-story, 183-room hotel — rising next to and above the existing Hyatt Place, within easy walking distance of Centennial Olympic Park, the Georgia Aquarium, the Georgia World Congress Center, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The development team had said publicly it hoped to move as fast as possible, with downtown set to host FIFA World Cup matches in 2026.
Plans from Elevate Architecture Studio call for a rooftop lounge, a street-level open-air bar, a speakeasy, and several other gathering spaces, plus what filings describe as "multi-story, lighted signage wrapping a corner of the building over entries." Fulton County property records show the .35-acre site sold for $4 million in the summer of 2022.
Marriott positions the Moxy brand as "playful, affordable, and stylish" relative to its more upscale flags, with more than 125 locations operating worldwide. Atlanta already has one: a dual-branded Moxy/AC Hotel on 14th Street in Midtown, which opened in time for the city's 2019 Super Bowl — a similar mega-event-driven timeline to the one this downtown project was chasing.
