Bottle Rocket Opens
Owners Josh and Bonny have opened Bottle Rocket on Mitchell Street, an eclectic bar featuring collected artwork, furniture, photography, and neighborhood relics accumulated over years. Soft openings are underway with the bar currently open most days after 5:00 PM, with lunch hours coming soon. The place looks "like it's been there forever" despite being brand new — a testament to its authentic character.
Safety & Security
Partners for Home Initiative — A coordinated effort addressing unhoused neighbors' needs ahead of the World Cup, with multiple leadership meetings held with Gateway Center and Downtown ATL, and daily outreach teams operating across multiple downtown zones.
17 New Foot-Beat Officers — Seventeen new officers deployed to Zone 5, with two neighborhood familiarization tours conducted. Officers have been briefed on current businesses, future openings, and the Undaunted security partnership.
Community
Open Container District Now Live — Tyde Tate Kitchen and Bottle Rocket are participating, with additional venues coming. Patrons can carry drinks between establishments while walking through the neighborhood.
Hospitality Job Fair — May 12, 2026, 3:00-5:00 PM. Positions available: front-of-house, back-of-house, hospitality, food & beverage, events, operations, administration, and parking.
Community Day Downtown — June 1, 2026, organized by Mercedes-Benz Stadium and AMB Sports and Entertainment. Over 500 volunteers signed up to make downtown cleaner, greener, and more welcoming.
GSU Public Art at 80 Forsyth — Georgia State University's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning partnered with more than 200 first-year art students and 8 faculty members to create an original campus mural over two semesters. GSU raised $15,000 internally to install a vinyl replica in South Downtown. Led by Brennan Collins, Neill Prewitt, and Renata Irving.
Development
85 Peachtree — Atlanta's original department store is ready for leasing after major restoration. A dramatic visual transformation from its initial state.
MARTA A-Line Now Open — The bus rapid transit route runs through South Downtown toward Summerhill and Peoplestown. Critical PSA: do not park or drive in the red-striped lane — officers are actively ticketing violators.
Founders Green — Under construction and taking shape with trees, native plants, park lights, climbing mounds, and turf being installed. An old parking sign is being converted into park signage.
Recognition
SoDo Atlanta won the Atlanta Business Chronicle "Best in Atlanta Real Estate" award in the Rehab/Revitalization category.
