Bottle Rocket

What it is

Bottle Rocket is a sushi, grill and cocktails restaurant at 231 Mitchell Street SW in South Downtown. Owners Josh Calvin and Bonny McKinnon say it has been open since 2011 and started as a Castleberry Hill hangout.

Food and drink

The menu mixes Japanese bar food with comfort plates. Starters include edamame, tuna tataki, house-made crab rangoon and a large vegetarian egg roll. From the grill come a black angus Bottle Rocket Burger with a Korean BBQ marinade, a flatiron steak, wings and Japanese fried chicken. There is a build-your-own poke bowl, plus a long list of sushi rolls and hand rolls. The drink menu covers draft and bottled beer, wine, vodka seltzers and cocktails.

Before you go

The restaurant lists business hours of 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The kitchen runs until 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and midnight on Sunday, and the full sushi bar is open from 5 p.m. The site says reservations are not accepted when Atlanta United is in town. Details and the full menu are on the Bottle Rocket website, or call 404-574-5680.
