Spain vs. Cabo Verde on June 15: your game day guide for downtown Atlanta

Atlanta's first FIFA World Cup match — Spain vs. Cabo Verde, Group H — kicks off at noon on Sunday, June 15 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. If you are coming downtown for the day, here is how to make the most of it.

Before the Game

Plan to arrive at least 90 minutes before kickoff. Centennial Yards, which is immediately adjacent to the stadium, has dining and the Rise ATL pop-up running from 10 AM. The FIFA Fan Fest at Centennial Olympic Park will also be active — it is a short walk from the stadium along Andrew Young International Blvd.

If you want to eat before the game, the Centennial Yards development has Chops Lobster Bar, Khao Thai Isan, Shake Shack, and The Irish Exit all within a two-minute walk of the stadium gates. Nearby options along Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Ted Turner Drive fill out quickly on match days, so arrive with a plan.

At the Stadium

Mercedes-Benz Stadium is a zero-waste venue. Bags must be clear and no larger than 12x6x12 inches. Food and beverage inside the stadium are cashless. The stadium doors typically open 90 minutes before kickoff.

After the Match

Expect post-match crowd density in the Centennial Olympic Park / Centennial Yards corridor for 30-60 minutes after the final whistle. If you are staying downtown, the Fan Fest will still be running and the Masquerade and Tabernacle both have evening shows. Check the events calendar for what is on that night.

Getting There

MARTA is the fastest way in. The GWCC / CNN Center station on the Red and Gold lines puts you a 5-minute walk from the stadium. Match day rail service typically runs on an extended schedule — check itsmarta.com for current schedules.
