Centennial Yards is a 50-acre redevelopment of the Gulch — the stretch of rail yards and surface parking that sat underused in the middle of downtown for decades — into a mixed-use district of housing, hotels, offices, retail and entertainment.
The site is the reason Atlanta exists. Four major rail lines converged here in the 1800s, and the original Circle Wye junction completed by the Macon & Western Railroad in 1846 is still on the property — it is the “A” in the Centennial Yards logo. When the 1920s viaducts lifted the streets up over the rail yards, what was left underneath became known as the Gulch.
Construction started in November 2022 with two 19-story towers: The Mitchell, now open and welcoming residents, and the 292-key Hotel Phoenix. In March 2024 the project announced an eight-acre entertainment district sitting directly across from State Farm Arena and Mercedes-Benz Stadium, anchored by the Centennial Yards Plaza, built to greet 2026 FIFA World Cup crowds. The historic Steele Bridge reopened in 2023, stitching the district back into the rest of downtown.
Anchor tenants include Cosm and its three-level Shared Reality venue, Live Nation, Wild Leap Atlanta’s flagship brewery and event space, and a third location of the legendary Busy Bee. Browse everything inside the district on the SoDo directory.
