Three downtown restaurant debuts in July, with Subtext and Ida's Kitchen Counter still to come

More than 30 restaurants opened across metro Atlanta in July, and the downtown share was small but pointed: an Asian food hall in Castleberry Hill and a soul food room in South Downtown.

Three downtown restaurant debuts in July, with Subtext and Ida's Kitchen Counter still to come

Two of the restaurants that opened in downtown Atlanta in July are worth walking to this week. Won Town, an Asian food hall, is now open in Castleberry Hill, and Delilah's Everyday Soul, a soul food restaurant, is open in South Downtown. They are the downtown entries on a metro-wide July list that ran past 30 openings, from Alpharetta and Dunwoody to Brookhaven, Buckhead, Midtown and Jonesboro.

The rest of the July class clustered in the neighborhoods that ring downtown rather than inside it. Nando's Peri-Peri took a stall at Krog Street Market in Inman Park. Mama Lin's Chicken Delight opened at Madison Yards in Reynoldstown, and Peetza Bear began selling whole New York-style pies and slices in the Edgewood retail district. Kamayan ATL, the Filipino restaurant on Buford Highway, relocated next door to its original space at Asian Square.

Midtown absorbed a large share of the month. Dumpling Master opened there, Habaneros brought Mexico City-inspired cooking to Spring Quarter, and Thyme Restaurant started serving dinner, brunch and cocktails in Piedmont Heights. On the Westside, Charm launched a Thai tasting menu inside 788 Omakase Table, Summerland from Anne Quatrano opened for breakfast and brunch at the new Upper West Market in Underwood Hills, and the indoor farmers market and food stall hall around it opened at the same time.

What is still ahead matters more for the downtown core. Subtext Bookstore, Cafe & Bar, a combined bookstore, cafe and cocktail bar, is planned for downtown in fall 2026. Ida's Kitchen Counter, a sandwich shop, is targeting August 2026 in South Downtown. Between them and the two July openings, the South Downtown and Castleberry Hill blocks are adding four food and drink businesses inside roughly a year, in a stretch that has had very few evening options.

Midtown's pipeline is heavier still and will shape where downtown workers go after hours. Sozou opens at Spring Quarter on Aug. 7, with Pataaka, an Indian restaurant, following there in summer 2026. Enzo Steakhouse & Bar, an Italian steakhouse, is set for Epicurean Atlanta in late 2026 or early 2027, alongside An Sushi in the same window and a Danish bakery and smorrebrod cafe in early 2027. The Bank of America building is getting the largest single package: a West Wing restaurant, Spire Espresso + Spirits, a market and cafe, and a private club called The Perch, all across 2026 and 2027.

Farther out, CVI.CHE 105 arrives at Phipps Plaza in fall 2026 with KAI Fusion following in summer 2027, &pizza opens at The Interlock in September 2026, Varuni Napoli's third location debuts at High Street in Dunwoody on Aug. 5, Adega Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse is slated for Twelve24 in Dunwoody in December 2026, and StillFire Brewing plans a Tucker location in fall 2027. Close to three dozen openings were announced in July for the months ahead.
