The Municipal Market on Edgewood Avenue has been part of the Sweet Auburn District for decades, and in June 2026 it added a fresh batch of vendors. Four new restaurant stalls have come into the market. The Atlanta Voice reports that many of them are owned by Black women, and Rough Draft Atlanta describes all four as minority-owned. City officials, business leaders and residents gathered on the morning of Friday, June 5 for a ribbon-cutting, food tastings and a mini-tour of the new stalls.
A Taste of Secrets
Chefs Niddy Rodriguez and Miish Hudson run A Taste of Secrets, known as A.T.O.S., a Jamaican and Puerto Rican fusion counter that was scheduled to open Saturday, June 13. Both have worked as executive chefs. They told The Atlanta Voice that opening in a historic, busy market was an easy call, with Rodriguez calling the building a hub for Atlantans and Hudson pointing to its history.
The menu pulls from both islands, with traditional dishes plus empanadas filled with seafood, oxtail, curry chicken or beef.
Dolce Tropical
A few feet away, Dolce Tropical serves fruitnadas, milkshakes, ice cream sundaes and tropical lemonade. Owner Latasha Smith and her daughter Jordan were working behind the counter during the celebration, and Latasha said the idea came partly from Jordan and partly from the drink options on the Santa Monica Pier. Before landing a permanent spot, the pair set up outside fairs and near busy areas. The shop had a soft opening on Wednesday, June 3, and was open for business by the ribbon-cutting.
Latasha told the paper she wanted to bring those flavors to Atlanta, and that the market felt culturally diverse and made her family feel welcome from the start.
Two more on the way
The other two newcomers, The Retro Grill and Edgewood Pizza, were set to open soon after the event. The Retro Grill is owned and operated by Kheli Archer. Check with the market for current opening status before you head over.
Greg Clay, deputy chief of staff in Mayor Andre Dickens' office, called the Municipal Market an institution at the event. Fellow vendor Miss D, whose Miss D's Gourmet Candy is also inside the market, said the additions are good for the community and for entrepreneurs getting their start.
For anyone who works or lives near Georgia State or along Edgewood, the new stalls give a few more reasons to wander through the historic market hall for lunch or a cold drink.
