Date set for Super Bowl in Atlanta in 2028

Downtown Atlanta's next mega-event just got a date. Super Bowl LXII will kick off Feb. 13, 2028, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter — a report the stadium quickly confirmed through its own social channels.

The date itself is a small piece of history: Feb. 13 matches the latest calendar slot the game has ever occupied, though the 2027 edition at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles will push one day further to Feb. 14.

For Atlanta, the game extends a streak few American downtowns can touch. This will be the city's fourth Super Bowl and the second inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, following the 2019 game — the NFL awarded it back in 2024. It arrives less than 19 months after the stadium hosted eight FIFA World Cup matches, and the pipeline keeps running: the NCAA men's Final Four lands there in 2031, and the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup — expected to be awarded to the U.S., Mexico, Costa Rica and Jamaica — could bring matches to the building as well.

For the neighborhoods around the stadium, the timing is a gift. Centennial Yards, South Downtown and The CTR all opened their first phases against a World Cup deadline; a Super Bowl 19 months out gives every one of them a second act to build toward.
