Skol Brewing Company is growing well beyond its brewpub at 200 Peachtree. The company is taking over a neighboring 30,000-square-foot space for Valhalla Gaming Lounge, a games venue that should open in May.
The timing puts the opening ahead of this summer's FIFA World Cup matches in Atlanta, which will be played at nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
What Valhalla will offer
Plans call for more than 40 gaming options. The list includes bocce courts, billiard tables, darts, simulators, soccer experiences and an old-school arcade. Guests will be able to order from the same food and drink menu Skol serves at the brewpub.
The lounge may grow further over time. A live-music stage and a climbing wall are a possibility for some point down the road.
Games are not new to the 200 Peachtree address. Skol already runs an axe-throwing venue at the brewpub through a partnership with American Axes, and Valhalla will give guests a dedicated space for play next door.
About Skol Brewing
Skol opened at 200 Peachtree last year with a Nordic theme that runs through both the decor and the menu. Chef Rich Rosendale developed the food, which leans toward Midwest comfort dishes. Diners will find Ellsworth Creamery cheese curds, smoked brisket poutine and Skol's own take on the Jucy Lucy, a cheese-stuffed burger patty popular in Minnesota.
The brewery makes nearly 20 beers. Among them are Northern Lights Lager, Space Wrangler Hazy IPA and Skol Nation Cold IPA, which was brewed with Minnesota Vikings fans in mind. The bar also produces indoor snow whenever the Vikings score a touchdown.
A familiar downtown building
The 200 Peachtree building stands next door to The Westin Peachtree Plaza, Atlanta. Longtime Atlantans know it as the former home of the Davison's and Macy's department stores.
Valhalla is one of several food and drink projects in the works in the heart of downtown and in South Downtown near the state capitol. Many of those restaurants will open ahead of the World Cup.
