Two Hours Free Across 315 South Downtown Parking Spots — Here's Where

With the World Cup crowds gone, South Downtown Atlanta is reminding visitors about a standing perk: two free hours across 315 street parking spots on four blocks near Mitchell, Forsyth, and Nelson.

The World Cup crowds have cleared out of South Downtown, but one of the district’s quieter perks never went anywhere: two hours of free parking across 315 spots, spread across four street addresses in the historic core.

South Downtown Atlanta flagged the program again this month as a reminder for anyone who hasn’t made the trip since the tournament wrapped. The free spots sit at South Downtown - Elm Lot (170 Mitchell Street), South Downtown - Redbud Lot (165 Mitchell Street), 120 Forsyth Street, and the South Downtown - Dogwood Lot at 214 Nelson Street — all within the canonical 10-block SoDo boundary bounded by Alabama, Mitchell, Forsyth, and Peachtree. Each of those four has its own page here with the entrance, the walk, and what is closest to it.

How the two hours work

Two hours free, then normal lot rates apply. It is not a free lot — it is a free window, and it is per lot, not per district. Signage and enforcement are set by the operators and change without notice, so read the signs when you arrive.

The pitch is simple: park once, and you’re a short walk from most of the neighborhood’s recent openings. Hotel Row alone puts Crates, Tyde Tate Kitchen, and Delilah’s Everyday Soul within a block of each other at 229 Mitchell Street, with Spiller Park Coffee a few doors down at 233 Mitchell. Founders Green — the open-air plaza South Downtown built out of a former parking lot — sits close enough to make a coffee-to-park loop an easy afternoon.

It’s a small piece of infrastructure, but it fits the broader story South Downtown has been telling all year: a neighborhood that spent the World Cup run-up rebuilding block by block now has to prove the momentum holds once the international spotlight moves on. Two free hours removes one of the more common excuses for staying away — and puts the burden back on the storefronts themselves to give people a reason to stick around once they’ve parked.
