What it is
Friedman’s Shoes is a family-owned, family-run store on Mitchell Street that has one specialty: shoes in hard-to-find big sizes. It’s the retail home of Largefeet.com, but seeing the selection in person makes the trip worthwhile. The men’s side covers dress shoes, oxfords, loafers, boots, sandals and sneakers from labels such as Stacy Adams, Florsheim, Johnston & Murphy, Mezlan, Steve Madden and Keen. The women’s side has pumps, heels and flats, and you can round out an outfit with belts, socks and wallets.
Famous feet
For years the store has quietly fitted some very large names. Its wall of famous customers includes Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, and Hawks favorites Dominique Wilkins and Dikembe Mutombo. The list even reaches Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones.

Getting here
The shop sits on Mitchell Street between Spring and Forsyth streets, next door to Brown Toy Box. From MARTA’s Five Points Station, take the Forsyth Street exit and walk two blocks south to Mitchell, then turn right. If you’re driving, South Downtown’s 120 Forsyth Street lot is steps away, and the first two hours are free.
