Downtown gets another late-night food option on Wednesday, Aug. 13, when Shake Shack opens at 85 Centennial Olympic Park Drive NW, Suite D500. It is the chain's 10th location in metro Atlanta and its second storefront downtown, dropping a national burger name directly into the Centennial Yards Entertainment District a short walk from State Farm Arena, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium gates and the Georgia World Congress Center.
The hours are the part worth writing down. The restaurant will run 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. That puts a counter-service kitchen open well past the end of most arena events and concerts, in a part of downtown where the postgame options have historically thinned out fast once the crowd spills onto Marietta Street.
The space measures 3,010 square feet and carries the full Shake Shack menu: Angus beef burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, crinkle-cut fries, hand-spun milkshakes and house-made lemonades, plus the rotating seasonal and limited-time items the chain uses to keep regulars cycling back. Opening day comes with branded merchandise, including tote bags, for some of the first guests, and the store will donate $1 for every sandwich sold on Aug. 13 to Camp Twin Lakes, the Georgia nonprofit that runs camp programs for children and families facing serious illnesses and other life challenges.
Brian McGowan, president of Centennial Yards Company, framed the opening as another piece of the district's push to give residents, workers and visitors a reason to stay put after the whistle. That lineup is filling in quickly. Chops Lobster Bar is on the way, and The Irish Exit and Varuni Napoli have both signed on recently, giving the Entertainment District a spread that runs from pizza to steak and lobster to a burger counter.
The Entertainment District covers 7.5 acres inside the larger 50-acre Centennial Yards development, the CIM Group project rebuilding the old Gulch into a walkable stretch of blocks between downtown's stadium district and Five Points. Centennial Yards Company was created by CIM Group to own and master-develop the site. For anyone who works downtown, the practical upshot is a food-and-drink cluster starting to hold together as a place you can walk to, rather than a set of one-off leases scattered across the district.
