As the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaches, South Downtown is experiencing what Urbanize Atlanta calls "the largest widespread injection of downtown investment in 30 years." The 16-acre revitalization stretching from Mercedes-Benz Stadium to the Gold Dome is rushing to meet the tournament's June 15 opening.
More than a dozen food and beverage concepts are scheduled to open between April and early June, including Broad Street BBQ, Bottle Rocket (burgers and sushi), Delilah's Everyday Soul, El Tesoro taqueria, Glide Pizza (expanding from Decatur), and a breakfast-lunch concept from chefs Todd Ginsberg and Josh Kim. The Brewhouse Pub — recognized as "the best soccer bar in the U.S." — is opening a second location on Broad Street.
Infrastructure is keeping pace. MARTA's new Rapid A-Line bus rapid transit service launches April 18, marking the agency's first new transit line in 25 years. The Historic Broad Streetscape project is reimagining three city blocks spanning approximately 3,000 linear feet.
The entertainment anchor arrives June 10 when Cosm Atlanta opens its 70,000-square-foot immersive venue featuring an 87-foot LED dome, broadcasting 40 World Cup matches. Meanwhile, CNN Center reopens as "The Center" in May with a food-hall focus.
Atlanta Ventures is managing 58 historic structures across the district, with meticulous facade restoration on buildings dating to the 1870s. The work represents a 10-year-in-the-making transformation that extends well beyond hosting the World Cup.
