Three more storefronts are headed for South Downtown, and all three are within a short walk of each other in the historic district Atlanta Ventures is redeveloping across 58 buildings and 16 acres. Breakfast-and-lunch diner Ida's Kitchen Counter is finishing buildout at 185 Mitchell St. Filipino restaurant Estrellita is taking 115 Broad St. And children's toy company Brown Toy Box is moving merchandise into street-level space at 211 Mitchell St., on Hotel Row.
Ida's Kitchen Counter comes from Todd Ginsberg, of The General Muir and Fred's Meat and Bread, along with Josh Kim. The restaurant will open as soon as buildout wraps, occupying the ground floor beneath offices and two apartments. The restored building at 185 Mitchell dates to at least the 1870s and is considered one of downtown's oldest, according to district officials.
Estrellita sits directly next door to the north. The Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant announced in June that it was leaving the Grant Park location it had held for six years, and it is planning to open on Broad Street later this year, per April Stammel, South Downtown's marketing and community engagement lead. Once open, it will share patio space with Ida's and with the Glide Pizza outpost that started serving in June.
Brown Toy Box, an Atlanta-based company, is aiming for a late-August opening on Hotel Row. Urbanize corrected an earlier version of its report to place the store on Hotel Row itself rather than across the street at the 222 Mitchell building.
The three join Delilah's Everyday Soul and leather goods retailer KMM & Co., which opened at 87 Peachtree St. just south of Five Points, plus several other restaurants added recently. Stammel said 14 retail suites are still available around the district, and that several of those have reached the Letters of Intent stage with prospective tenants. On the construction side, tours of the former HL Green building are expected to begin soon for retail and office prospects, and the first residents are moving into the restored 85 Peachtree building, now loft apartments near Five Points.
Founders Green, the pocket park that drew World Cup crowds for weeks this summer, has nearly finished booking its fall calendar. Programming includes sports viewing parties, live music, movie nights and yoga. District leaders have been explicit since the tournament ended that the pace of work has not slowed.
