What to see
The Center is set up as a series of galleries that you move through at your own pace. Rolls Down Like Water covers turning points of the American Civil Rights Movement through interactive displays. A Committed Life focuses on Dr. King’s life, using papers and objects from the Morehouse College collection. Everyone. Everywhere turns to human rights defenders working around the world today. Families should look for Change Agent Adventure, a children’s gallery for kids 12 and under, and soccer fans can catch The People’s Game, an exhibit on soccer and human rights.
Before you go
The Center posts hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Last entry is at 4 p.m., and it closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Allow 90 minutes to two hours. A “Plan and Save” ticket for a set day and time costs less than an “Anytime” ticket, which stays good for a year. Have your e-ticket ready when you arrive. You can take photos in most galleries, but not in A Committed Life. Outside food isn’t allowed, though the on-site café has seating, and there’s no bag storage.
Getting here
The museum is on Ivan Allen Jr. Boulevard, between Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola, a short walk from Centennial Olympic Park. The Center says MARTA’s Civic Center Station is about an eight-minute walk away. The Atlanta Streetcar’s Centennial Olympic Park stop is also nearby. Stairs on the left side of the building lead to the ticket office, and the wheelchair-accessible path is on the right.
