What it is
Glenn Hotel fills the ten-story Glenn Building at the corner of Marietta Street and Ted Turner Drive. Washington, D.C., architect Waddy B. Wood designed the Neoclassical Revival tower as an office building. Preservationists saved it from demolition in 1986, and after a major renovation it reopened as downtown Atlanta’s first boutique hotel. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places. The land once belonged to John T. Glenn, Atlanta’s mayor from 1889 to 1891.
Staying here
Rooms have one King, one Queen or two Double beds. There are also one-bedroom Dream Suites with separate living areas and a Penthouse Suite. Brass lion door-knockers mark the guest room doors. Every room includes wireless internet, coffee and a safe, and accessible rooms are available.
Eat and drink
The Living Room, off the lobby, pours organic and biodynamic wines, craft beers and seasonal cocktails. Glenn’s Kitchen serves American comfort food with a Southern accent, such as shrimp and grits and fried Georgia chicken. On the roof, SkyLounge offers skyline views from an outdoor terrace and covered seating, and the hotel calls it Atlanta’s first rooftop bar. Private events sometimes limit public access, so check availability before you go up.
Getting here
The hotel is two blocks from MARTA and across the street from SkyView Atlanta. Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia Aquarium and World of Coca-Cola are all within walking distance.
